In December last year, Microsoft shut down its Groove Music streaming service on Android and iOS platforms. Laptop users seemed to be exempt from the discontinuation as the company promised to keep the service running on Windows 10. Apparently, Microsoft wasn’t planning to keep its promise to make Groove Music fully functional across Windows 10 devices as it announced that, from March 31 onwards, the OneDrive streaming service using the Groove Music app will be retired for good.

What this means is that Windows 10 users will no longer be able to use Groove as a locker for their music files in OneDrive. If you still want to listen to your online albums with the app, you will have to download them offline first. Alternatively, you can play them with another streaming app.

That’s the bad news out of the way, then. The good news is that you can still make use of the amazing features of Groove Music as Microsoft isn’t ending support for the app on Windows 10. As noted above, your local files will remain playable through Groove. You will still be able to set playlists, play background music, and even use radio mode. Another awesome feature is the Equalizer, which was added to version 10.18011.12711.0 and later.

How to use equalizer in Groove Music for Windows 10?

Learning how to tweak sound settings on Windows 10 for Groove or any other music app you have is a good idea that will enable you to customize your music experience to your heart’s content.

Before you proceed, you must verify that you’re running the correct version of Groove Music. If your version isn’t up to date, upgrade it in Windows Store.

Open the Groove Music app on your Windows 10 PC and click the gear icon at the bottom left to access settings. You will see equalizer under Playback. Clicking Equalizer will bring up a window full of equalizer presets for bass, treble boost, bass boost, headphones, laptops, portable speakers, head stereo, etc. You can select one of them for the desired sound effect.

If you prefer to assign the values yourself, select custom and move the white dots across the blue graph as required. Save and exit when you’re done.

With these steps, you should be able to enjoy awesome sound effects when playing with Groove, perhaps with an extra punch in the bass department. You may connect your headphones or another audio peripheral and just let your music blast away.

If the equalizer effect isn’t so pronounced as you thought it would be or if you are generally getting low-quality sound, you might want to check if you have the correct sound drivers installed. You can opt for a painstaking manual check or you can use Auslogics Driver Updater to scan your computer for any missing or outdated sound drivers.

Auslogics Driver Updater will not only scan your entire system and pinpoint all cases of obsolete or problematic drivers, but with a click, it will also download the latest, manufacturer-recommended sound drivers for your Windows 10 PC. You can install the Pro version to update all your drivers in one go.
